How to Check and Refresh Ping in the App — and Why It Matters
Ping is the time it takes for a signal to travel from your device to the server and back, measured in milliseconds. For ordinary browsing and downloading files it barely matters. But for video calls, online games and live streams, the difference between 40ms and 250ms is the difference between "everything's smooth" and "constant micro-lag and audio drift."
Where to Check Ping Right in the App
In most clients we recommend on the Apps page (v2rayNG, Hiddify, NekoBox and similar), the list of servers/locations shows latency next to each profile — usually an icon or a number in milliseconds to the right of the name. The ping check runs either automatically when you open the list, or via a "Test" button / stopwatch icon next to a specific location.
- Open the location list in the app.
- Run the latency check (usually an icon next to each server or a button at the top of the list).
- Pick the location with the lowest value for latency-sensitive tasks.
If the app doesn't show ping on its own, up-to-date numbers for every location are always available on our public status page, no account login required.
When It's Worth Switching Location
You don't need to chase the lowest number all the time. It's worth switching when:
- you've noticed lag or drops specifically in video calls or games;
- your current location has suddenly become noticeably slower than usual (there could be a temporary overload on the transit carrier's side, not ours);
- you need access to a service that's physically tied to a specific country.
What to Do If Ping Is High Across All Locations at Once
If latency has gone up on every server at the same time, the issue is most likely on your own network (home router, congested Wi-Fi, mobile network in a poor coverage area) rather than the VPN. It's easy to check: temporarily turn off the VPN and see if ping to regular sites changes.
